Projects and Programs

In order to achieve the aims and goals , Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) conduct their projects and programs throughout the year all over Bangladesh; few of them are as follows:

1. Food commodity distributed among the families of disabled people

Bangladesh is a muslim majority country and Eid plays a major role in their social and religious life. DIS believes in inclusive society and inclusive festival too for all. In that note, DIS arranged food commodity distribution before every Eid-Ul-Fitre among poor and needy families of disabled people to make their Eid festival joyful.

2. Smart Phone Operating Training and Distribution Among the Visually Impaired Persons

The smart phone was once considered a mere device to help visually impaired student to fulfill their studies. Today, that very smart phone has become a symbol of independence, self-reliance and confidence. According to WHO (2011) figures, there are around 4 million visually impaired people in Bangladesh. Among of them 90% of them live in low-income settings. As expected, they face difficulties in almost every stage of their life. Starting from getting access to purchase smart phone by them self. Therefore, DIS is running a program distributing a total of 30 smart phones among the visually impaired persons thrice a year.

3. Intermediate Level Computer Training Course and Laptop Distribution Among the Visually Impaired Students

A skillful manpower can improve social and economical development of a country. Doors for Inclusive Society DIS believes that a proper training, guideline and little bit of aid can make a disabled person to a workforce and to make them a skillful manpower of a country. In that note, DIS is running a program of intermediate level computer training course for the visually impaired persons and distributing laptops among them to remain their computer skill development process. With those laptops they can earn money for themselves by doing some outsourcing work.

4. Distributing Educational Materials

Education is a backbone of a nation and it is a fundamental right of every individual person. Considering this essential point in mind, Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) distributes educational materials such as school bags, pen and pencil, paper , geometry box to underprivileged students. DIS also provides free Braille books to coledge and university visually impaired students . Furthermore, DIS gives financial stipend among the students on need based criteria.

5. Sewing Machine Operating Training and Distribution

Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) believes that vocational training can change a person’s lifestile in a positive way. In that case, (DIS) arranged few sewing machine training join programs with Rehabilitation Center for Disable (RCD), Disabled Women Welfair Society (DWWS), Disabled Welfair Society (DWS) in all over the country; Doors for Inclusive Society arranged a join program with RCD in Chittagong and provide training and 6 sewing machines among underprivileged tribal people. DIS also provides 3 sewing machines among physically challenged people join program with DWWS in Kumilla.

6. Radio Jockey (RJ) Training Course

Nowadays, job market is very much squeezed for everyone. On the other hand, it is so tough for a person with disability to find a job in private sector. For this reason, Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) is trying to make new jobs for person with disabilities in job market. In that note, DIS is arranging radio jockey training course for physically challenged and visually impaired people which is a highly professional training course trainned by professional trainers.

7. Awareness Building Program

Doors for Inclusive Society (DIS) arranged a handful of awareness program on education, health, community awareness, mental health, criminal activities, women empowerment, UNCRPD , SDG and existing laws in relation to domestic violence, doury, disability related laws,. DIS also run a counseling program for person with disabilities every Friday and Saturday in their office.

Bangladesh is a developing country and there are so many barriers for person with disability and underprivileged persons to take part in mainstream. Doors for Inclusive Society believes in inclusive society for all persons and working on it. It is tough for a person or an organization or a NGO to bring a change in a society. In order to make barrierfree inclusive society it needs all the stakeholders awareness and active participation.

8. Mini Garments

Mini garments have been established and are involved in poverty alleviation. By bringing together marginalized groups and disabled individuals for training, they are working towards poverty eradication in the field of DIS. In this context, individuals from marginalized backgrounds and impoverished members of society are engaged in trading activities such as sewing machines, operator trading, cutting, marketing, etc., and have established a mini garment in Lalmonirhat district. The ownership of these garments has been distributed among all these people, and they are now managing the garment operations themselves. The benefits of the earnings are being enjoyed by them and the marginalized people of society.
